Letter: Military personnel earn liberties

By Steve Dieringer, Vancouver

Might I suggest that while raising the ages for tobacco, alcohol and weapons possession, an underage person be allowed a dispensation to those restrictions if they present a valid military I.D. or DD-214? Each of those serving or having served have already signed a check to the U.S. government in the amount up to and including their life. That, or raise the age of enlistment to 21. If an individual is to be hazarded so as to forfeit their life as an adult, they ought to be allowed those liberties afforded to adults. Be fair and just.
