Letter: How to pay for Medicare?

I continue to hear and read that several politicians are advocating for “Medicare for All.” I think that would be wonderful, but exactly how are those receiving this benefit going to come up with the money to pay for it?

My wife and I are on Medicare, as we are both retired and receiving Social Security. Every month a co-pay is deducted from our Social Security check. Because Medicare doesn’t cover everything we both have a Medicare Advantage plan. All totalled we are paying just short of $600 monthly for out-of-pocket healthcare costs not including actual medical and pharmacy co-pays that are due at the time of service. Then there is the noncovered portion of medical bills. Where is the financial support going to come from to add 200 million or more souls to the system?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
