PORTLAND — A member of the right-wing Proud Boys group has pleaded not guilty to felony third-degree assault and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault.

The Oregonian reports 23-year-old Donovon Lyle Flippo of Vancouver entered the pleas Wednesday in connection with a June attack of a man in Portland.

Flippo was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center.

The arrest came a day after Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler complained that law enforcement was basically ignoring violent protests in the city.

Flippo and another Proud Boys member, Tusitala “Tiny” Toese, 22, also of Vancouver, were indicted last month in connection with the assault of the man who says Flippo and another man shouted homophobic slurs at him before punching him in the face. Toese hasn’t yet been arrested. According to posts on his Facebook page he is out of state.

Records say 10 percent of Flippo’s $7,500 bail was posted and he was released from custody Tuesday night.
