Letter: Trump tries something new

I was hopeful our president and the leader of North Korea could continue progress toward peace they started last year. It was clear from the outset that things had changed, Kim’s face expressed it unequivocally. I think I caught a whiff of neoconservatism in the air, the mustachioed one was omnipresent. These people have only one tool in their kit: war and threat of war. They opposed the last meeting. These are the people who gave us Iraq and much more. Maybe the Office of Special Plans is back in business. After 60 years of failure, the president tried something new and they hate him for it.

I have known several men who served in Korea. They had no illusions about their fate if the North invaded. There are about 23,000 Americans on that line. They are targeted by 8,600 artillery guns, 4,800 rocket launchers and 1.19 million active soldiers.
