Walnut Grove — Seton Catholic College Preparatory student Elizabeth Hennessey, 18, will travel to New York in late April to represent Southwest Washington and Oregon in the 36th annual National Shakespeare Competition. On Feb. 23, the senior finished first in the competition’s regional event, held at Lewis & Clark College in Portland. Linda Scheurman, Seton’s drama and theater instructor, is Hennessey’s coach. Finalists will perform one sonnet and one monologue, as they did at the regional event, along with a cold reading from among Shakespeare’s entire canon of plays. The first-place award is a full scholarship to attend a summer Shakespeare program.
