WENATCHEE — The USDA has awarded the Washington Apple Commission $8,457,600 to mitigate the effects that President Donald Trump’s ongoing international trade war has had on the state’s apple exports.
The funding comes from the USDA’s Agricultural Trade Promotion Program, which has allocated $200 million to promote various export markets, according to a Jan. 31 press release.
“We appreciate the USDA’s support of the apple industry and their understanding of the challenges we are facing due to retaliatory tariffs in our export markets. This funding will be key to building markets and reducing the impact on Washington apple producers,” Washington Apple Commission President Todd Fryhover said in the release.
