Jesse Buck, an assistant boys basketball coach at Washougal, is Woodland’s new boys basketball coach, athletic director Paul Huddleston announced Friday.

Buck spent the past three years in the Panthers’ program, including its junior-varsity coach last year. He replaces Andrew Johnson, who coached the Beavers the past three seasons.

Huddleston praised Buck’s enthusiasm for more than just basketball.

“He’s one of those guys whose not only passionate about basketball,” Huddleston said, “but about developing character in kids. “… Everyone I’ve talked to, it’s a common theme everywhere that he’s a really good person with a big heart for kids.”

Buck teaches physical education at South Ridge Elementary School in Ridgefield.
