Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies and Vancouver police apprehended a robbery suspect Wednesday afternoon following a chase that went across the Interstate 205 Bridge into Portland.

The robber held up a Shell gas station on Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard with a knife, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

The knife-wielding man got into a red car and headed eastbound until he reached the freeway, and police followed him across the bridge, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

A spike strip was deployed and stopped the suspect’s vehicle on the freeway at Highway 213, according to a Tweet from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon. The sheriff’s office did not identify the driver.

Deputies temporarily shut down the southbound lanes of the freeway while they waited for a tow truck, the sheriff’s office said.
