Prep Roundup: Skyview baseball breaks through for win

Cooper Barnum had an RBI double and Kyle Olson added a two-run single to put Skyview on the board en route to a 9-2 win over Kennedy Catholic in an elimination games in the 4A bi-district baseball tournament.

The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie through four innings before the Storm broke through for four runs in the fifth.

After Kennedy cut the deficit to 4-2 in the sixth, Skyview put the game away with a five-run seventh inning with Olson doubling home two more runs.

Titus Oien went 2 for 4 with a double, run and RBI and Liam Kerr went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Skyview now gets two shots to win one game on Saturday to clinch a state berth.

The first comes against Kentlake at 11 a.m. at Heritage Park in Puyallup. Skyview will play Curtis or Olympia for fifth-place or seventh-place later Saturday.

Baseball playoffs

3A bi-district, Peninsula 4, Evergreen 2: Peninsula scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to rally past Evergreen in an elimination game of the 3A bi-district tournament.

Evergreen took a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Andrew Jennerjohn reached on an error with the bases loaded, scoring two runs.

Evergreen pitcher Jared Morser made that narrow lead hold up until the sixth when two errors led to three unearned runs, all scored with two outs.

Morser gave up one earned run in 5.1 innings, and he went 2 for 3 from the plate. Carter Monda was 2 for 4.

2A district, Woodland 12, Rochester 8: The Beavers managed only four hits, but were aided by 14 walks or hit batters in posting their first playoff win since 2014.

Boys soccer playoffs

1A district, Forks 2, Seton Catholic 1: Christian Martin scores a goal off an assists from Jetzael Meza-Gonzalez, but a second-half goal by Forks sent the Trojans to the district title game.

Seton gets another chance to qualify for state as it hosts a loser-out match with Columbia-White Salmon at 5 p.m. Friday.

Softball highlights

Ridgefield 8, Hockinson 3 — Kekai Schultz belted two home runs as the Spudders clinched the No. 2 seed to the 2A district tournament.

Mountain View 9, Kelso 3 — Serena Fogg went 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI, and Mary Fogg went 3 for 4 with triple and 3 RBI for the Thunder, who finished 3A GSHL play at 14-1.

Woodland 16, Washougal 0 — Olivia Grey struck out 15 of 16 batters she faced in five-inning no-hitter. The penultimate Washougal batter reached on a dropped third strike.

Prairie 19, Hudson’s Bay 0 — Mallory Williams went 4 for 5 with 3 runs, two doubles, a triple, and 5 RBI.
