1. Steam treatment

Mom will enjoy the beautiful spring scenery from aboard the Chelatchie Prairie Mother’s Day Steam Train on May 11, especially when paired with dinner and wine tasting at Moulton Falls Winery and Cider House, 31101 N.E. Railroad Ave., Yacolt. It starts with appetizers, wine and cider at 4 p.m., followed by an hourlong scenic train ride along the Lewis River to Yacolt Falls, then back to the winery for a full dinner and live music until 9 p.m. Tickets ($50, includes everything) are available at www.tickettomato.com/event/6134. 360-686-4070 or www.moultonfallswinery.com

2. Bloom where you’re planted

The Camas Plant & Garden Fair will return to downtown Camas along Fourth Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 11, filling the streets with offerings from over 100 local nurseries, growers and garden artists. Find trees, plants, flowers, hanging baskets, herbs, veggie starts, planters and pottery, birdhouses and feeders, garden benches, stone art and sculptures — plus on-site garden experts to answer questions and wagons to transport purchases to the car. There will also be plenty of food vendors, live music and lots of games and activities for kids. www.cwplantfair.org or www.downtowncamas.com

3. Some like it haute

If fashion is Mom’s passion, “Fashion Under the Stars,” 6:30 to 9 p.m. May 11, is the haute-est event in town, happening at Cascade Middle School, 13900 N.E. 18th St., Vancouver. Mountain View High School student designers will showcase fashions on the runway, accompanied by a silent auction featuring goodies from Starbucks, Blue Lotus Salon, Maryhill Museum of Art, Skamania Lodge, Museum of Pop Culture and many others. Browse the vendors, see fashions for sale (including consignment formalwear) and savor food and drinks from Nektar. Tickets are $5 to $20; proceeds support Mountain View High School. www.mvhs2019grads.com/fashion-show

4. Make pour decisions

Raise a glass (or two) to Mom from 2 to 6 p.m. May 11 at Pearson Airfield Historic Hangar, 1115 E. Fifth St., Vancouver, during Savor SW WA Wine, when guests can sip and sample Southwest Washington wines and food while mingling with winemakers and chefs. Tickets at the door are $85, including wine, food, coffee and other perks. Enjoy wine from Burnt Bridge, Confluence, Dolio, Emanar, English Estate, Heathen, Heisen House, Matranga, Mended Oak, Olequa, Pomeroy, Rezabek, Stavalaura, Windy Hills and more, plus eats from Bleu Door, Elements, Farrar’s, La Bottega and Tommy O’s. www.swwawine.com

5. Walk the plank(house)

Treat your mother to a little Mother Nature from noon to 4 p.m. May 12 during Second Sunday at the Cathlapotle Plankhouse in the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, 28908 N.W. Main Ave., Ridgefield. At 1 p.m., hear a presentation about “Indigenous Resilience and Resurgence,” then, at 2:30 p.m., go on a 45-minute naturalist-led hike exploring native uses of spring plants. Take a tour of the faithfully reconstructed Chinookan plankhouse any time between noon and 4 p.m., and enjoy hands-on, family-friendly activities and crafts. The cost to enter the refuge is $3 per vehicle. www.ridgefieldfriends.org
