Letter: Why is president suing us?

By Karen McNeil, Vancouver
Published: May 12, 2019, 6:00am

You are being sued. In our country we have three coequal branches of government: the legislative, judicial and executive. One of the duties of the legislative branch is to do oversight. The legislative branch is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The House is where we the people are most accurately represented due to the highest number of people we have elected to represent us.

We the people are now being sued by our own executive branch. Why?

How would you feel if any other president were pulling the same nefarious acts? Think about this for a minute. Our president is suing the House — suing us. Can any one of us sue the executive branch? Can we sue the judicial branch? If the president has nothing to hide, why is he insisting on keeping his finances secret to the point of suing all of us?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
