Clark County Open Studios Tour seeks 50 Clark County artists to open their studios to the public on Nov. 2 and 3. The tour is open to all visual artists and artisans working in all media. Applications are due May 31. Go to ccopenstudios.org for details and guidelines and to submit an online application.

Music

Clark County 4th at the Fairgrounds seeks local rock bands for the Battle of the Bands on July 4 at the Clark County Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Rd., Ridgefield. Aspiring contestants must submit three references from prior performances, names of band members, email addresses, phone numbers, and a three- to five-minute video recording to Clarkcounty4th@gmail.com by May 20. Third and fourth place bands win $250 each with $500 for the runner-up. Vancouver Community Concert Band seeks brass, woodwind and percussion players, active and retired. All abilities welcome; no audition required. The volunteer community band, along with its polka band, Dixieland Jazz Band and chamber ensembles, performs regularly around the area. Vancouver Pops Orchestra seeks musicians who play orchestral instruments. The ensemble plays 20 to 25 45-minute assemblies each year in local grade schools. Rehearsals are 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays. Theater and performance

Journey Theater will hold auditions for “Newsies,” to be performed Aug. 2 through 11 at Heritage High School. Auditions (three-minute slots by appointment only) will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. June 5 in Vancouver and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 8 in Portland. The production needs performers ages 8 and up, as well as dancers and singers to play multiple roles. Some adults are needed. Auditioners should bring headshots and resumes, be familiar with “Newsies” songs and prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song, accompanied by CD or downloaded audio file. Riverside Performing Arts seeks actors for “Our Town.” Auditions will be at 6 p.m. June 14 a Riverside Performing Arts, 1307 N.E. 78th St., No. 9, Vancouver. Performers should come prepared with a one-minute monologue and may be asked to read from the script. The play is an acting course which includes performance training, storytelling through body language, script analysis, stage vocalization and character development. The cost to participate is $500 per student, and includes professional headshots and four show tickets for the performance on Aug. 9.
