A water main break Monday afternoon flooded Northwest 99th Street near Columbia River High School.

Both directions of 99th Street remained closed late Monday, from Northwest Ninth to Northwest Fourth avenues. Drivers were diverted to side streets.

A Clark Public Utilities crew was on its way to the scene about 3:45 p.m. to fix the break and drain standing water, according to the agency’s spokeswoman Erica Erland. Water was shut off indefinitely in surrounding areas for four customers, which did not include the high school, she said. Erland added that the issue was not expected to impact school Tuesday.

“Water in the area, however, may be running cloudy or have pressure variances for the next 24 hours as repairs to the system are completed,” Erland said in an email. “Residents who experience issues with water quality should run the water from their faucets until the water is clear before using.”

Water was expected to be restored by midnight, and the road should open before the Tuesday morning commute, Erland said late Monday.

Monday’s elementary school track meet at the high school, with fourth- and fifth-graders from eight schools, was postponed until Thursday, according to Vancouver Public Schools.
