Letter: Touchmark applauds volunteers

Touchmark at Fairway Village would like to respond to the letter expressing an opinion about volunteer opportunities interacting with residents receiving memory care services. Touchmark is proud to offer one of the highest staff-to-resident ratios, and we are extremely proud of our team members who serve as allies, friends, and givers to all residents and guests. It’s important to note that we have never enlisted the services of volunteers to replace the work of team members — and never will.

When people do approach us and express interest in volunteering, we have a thorough review and training process in place. Once accepted, volunteers are always supervised by staff.

Volunteering provides numerous benefits to people — both those volunteering and recipients. There are numerous intrinsic rewards offered by volunteerism, and people’s reasons to volunteer vary. Most Touchmark volunteers live nearby, used to have family who lived here or know someone who currently lives here, or are members of our Health and Fitness Club.

We applaud and celebrate all individuals who choose to share their time, talents, and interests to enrich the lives of others. Our world is a better place thanks to their selfless service.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
