Letter: Dam removal is proven remedy

By Donald Green, VANCOUVER

The Columbian editorial on the Snake River dams study is woefully inaccurate (“Study of Snake River dams waste of tax dollars,” May 15, The Columbian). Quoting the Yakima Herald as a source for scientific data is laughable. According to the Canadian fisheries commission, the salmon runs on the Fraser River have almost totally collapsed. Scientific American states that salmon runs in the Pacific Northwest are in danger due to dams and water pollution. It may be too late to save the orcas, but salmon can still be saved. The contribution of electricity by the Snake River dams is minimal. Dam removal is not an “extremist position”; it is a proven remedy.
