A road rage incident Friday evening that spanned several miles on westbound state Highway 14 apparently started in Washougal over a stolen vehicle, according to Camas police.

The incident was reported as “harassment in progress” around 5:40 p.m. near Washougal River Road and Highway 14, emergency dispatch logs show. Both Camas and Washougal police responded, as did Washington State Patrol troopers.

A pickup and Toyota 4Runner were traveling 100 mph west on the highway, and at one point, one of the vehicles was ramming the other, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

Camas police Officer Debrah Riedl said the alleged victim of a vehicle theft started chasing the suspect, and the situation escalated.

At least one of the vehicles stopped near the Lieser Road offramp in Vancouver, and the right lane of the highway was blocked for about an hour while officers responded, according to WSDOT. Riedl said state patrol took the lead and had people in custody. It was unclear how many people were in custody.

Efforts to reach a spokesperson with state patrol were unsuccessful Friday evening.
