NORTH COUNTY — Woodland High School’s Jazz Choir took first place in March in the Vocal Division 3 at the Commencement Bay Jazz Festival at Fife High School, Tacoma, for the second time in the festival’s two-year history. Students taking jazz choir know that the competition comes with the performance-based course. During the class, students met daily at 7:15 a.m. and were required to attend all performances. The choir features a pianist, guitarists and a drummer. “The quality of our program is what differentiates Woodland High School from our competitors,” Brent LiaBraaten, WHS choir teacher, said in a news release. “We receive so much support from the school and the district that our students feel motivated and inspired to perform.”
