Letter: Herrera Beutler takes right steps

I’m not quite sure why Abby Lunstrum, in her recent letter to the editor, attacked Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, for fighting for clean oceans (“Problems caused by climate change,” Our Readers’ Views, May 12). Ocean acidification is on the rise, and Jaime is taking action. Abby is correct: ocean acidification is indeed a threat to the shellfish and fishing industry in Pacific County. So why is she fighting against Jaime’s efforts to solve the problem?

Jaime crossed the aisle, working alongside a Democrat representative, to get the ball rolling. While Lunstrum seems to be opposed to bipartisan solutions to clean up our environment, I am thankful our representative is willing to work with anyone, of any party, to find solutions to the issues facing Southwest Washington.
