Clark athletic report: Penguins men’s cross country 2nd at region meet

CROSS COUNTRY

Last week: The Clark men placed second out of the six teams at the NWAC Southern Region Championships, held at Clackamas. The Penguins scored 75 points to finish behind Lane’s 23. Sophomore Micah Goff (Union HS) led the Penguins by placing ninth overall on the 8K course in 27 minutes, 1.3 seconds. Freshman Evans Kaame was 11th overall for Clark in 27:31.1. Coach Bob Williams was named co-coach of the year in the South Region. The Clark women were fourth out of five teams with 104 points. Clark freshmen Paige Neff (Camas HS) was 14th overall in 20:28.0 and Sally Anderson (Prairie HS) was 16th overall 20:56.0 on the 6K course.

Next meet: NWAC Championships on Monday, Nov. 18 at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Record: 11-3-1 overall (ranked 4th in NWAC coaches poll)

Next: Clark will host either Tacoma or Columbia Basin in an NWAC quarterfinal match at noon Saturday at Kim Christensen Field on the Clark campus. The quarterfinal winner advances to the NWAC semifinals on Nov. 15 at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila.

VOLLEYBALL

Record: 13-19 overall, 3-11 NWAC South (tied for eighth place)

Last week: lost to Clackamas 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-14); beat Umpqua 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 18-25, 25-16, 15-11)

This week: Clark at Chemeketa, 6:30 p.m. Friday; Mt. Hood at Clark, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 (Sophomore Night)

Notable: Marina Breuner had 52 assists, Laurel Davidson led with 18 kills, and Tyra Schroeder (King’s Way Christian HS) had 19 digs in the win over Umpqua.
