CENTRAL VANCOUVER — The Fort Vancouver Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently gathered to celebrate a century of service. The group held a luncheon Oct. 12 at Club Green Meadows. Chapter Regent Barbara Hilkey presented certificates honoring years of service and inducted new members. The program was presented by Mary Rose, executive director of Friends of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. According to its website, the Fort Vancouver chapter started in 1919 and decided on the name because many charter members were relatives of original pioneers who settled the area and traded at the fort. The local group is part of a national nonprofit organization founded in 1890 and is based in Washington, D.C., with a mission of “promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education for children.” Find out more at www.dar.org.
