Prep roundup: Wick, Jones, Foster lead Mountain View swimming

Madison Wick, Shu-Ting Jones and Samantha Foster all won individual titles as the Mountain View girls swimming team captured the 3A bi-district team title Saturday in Kelso.

Mountain View outscored Prairie 276-216 for the title.

Wick won the 50 freestyle (25.32 seconds), Jones won the 100 backstroke (1:07.66) and Foster won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.72). The Thunder also swept all three relays — 200 free, 200 medley and 400 free.

Kelso’s Angie Eugenis was a two-event winner, taking the 100 freestyle (55.66) and 200 freestyle (1:59.87).

In the 4A meet, Camas was edged out by Hanford for the team title 265-263.

Camas got bi-district titles from Paeton Lesser in the 200 individual medley (2:14.84) and Campbell Deringer in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.75). The Papermakers also won the 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Union’s Annette Chang was a two-event winner, taking the 50 freestyle (24.74) and 100 freestyle (53.69).

In the 2A-1A meet in Hoquiam, La Center’s Hailey Grotte and Bryanna Ungs each won two races. Grotte took the 50 and 100 freestyle events, and Ungs won the 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley.

Girls soccer

MOUNTAIN VIEW 2, STADIUM 1 (OT) — Olivia Fothergill scored both goals for the Thunder including the golden goal in overtime in the fifth-place game of the 3A bi-district tournament.

Fothergill’s first goal came in the opening minutes with an assist from Ellie White and held through halftime.

Stadium tied the match in the 56th minute.

Fothergill’s game-winner came off an assist from Alexis Sadler.

Mountain View awaits its pairing for the 3A state tournament.

AUBURN RIVERSIDE 1, UNION 0 — The Titans finished as the No. 4 seed to the 4A state tournament out of the 4A bi-district playoffs. Auburn Riverside scored the winning goal in the second half and will be the No. 1 seed to state.

HOCKINSON 2, TUMWATER 1 — Hockinson scored two goals in the final 20 minutes to rally past Tumwater and secure a state berth with a win in the 2A district third-place match.

Brooke Grosz scored off a penalty kick after Tumwater had taken a 1-0 lead. Then with five minutes left, Ellie Seekins scored off an assists by Grosz for the game winner.

LA CENTER 2, CASTLE ROCK 0 — The Wildcats beat Castle Rock to earn the No. 3 seed to state from the 1A district tournament.

Volleyball

FIRM FOUNDATION 3, SUNNYSIDE CHRISTIAN 0 — Setter Abbie Helmes had 14 assists, eight digs and three aces, and Columbia Valley League MVP Katie Kogler had 15 kills and 12 digs as Firm Foundation won 25-14, 25-16, 25-15 in its 1B bi-district playoff match to earn a third consecutive berth to state.

“It was just real consistent play,” Firm Foundation coach John Stevens said. “We made the most of good passes and good sets. Everyone was up for the challenge.”

CASTLE ROCK 3, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 1; KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 3, ELMA 0 — The Knights are headed for the 1A state tournament in Yakima after beating Elma 26-24, 25-20, 25-20 for second place at the 1A district tournament at Castle Rock.

Abby Cummins had 24 assists, eight kills, two blocks and nine digs.

King’s Way lost to Castle Rock 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 25-20 in the district championship match to drop into the winner-to-state match against Elma, which eliminated La Center in five sets.

ELMA 3, LA CENTER 2 — The Wildcats season ended with a 25-23, 25-15, 18-15, 13-25, 18-16 defeat to Elma. La Center had battled back from 10-6 down in the fifth set. Tiffany Chandler led with 26 kills, Katie Leslie had 16 digs and Ceanna Johnson had 17 assists for the Wildcats.

RIDGEFIELD WINS 2A DISTRICT TITLE — After having to get to state through the consolation bracket last year, the Ridgefield Spudders left no doubt, sweeping to the 2A district title with wins over Woodland and Columbia River on Saturday in Tumwater.

The Spudders beat Woodland 25-18, 25-5, 25-13 in the semifinals, and River 25-20, 25-18, 25-15 in the championship match.
