Letter: Sex ed curriculum will corrupt minds

I think the decision to cut the Battle Ground sex ed requirement was the right choice. This debate lasted for a year until the decision was finally made and voted on. However, the one thing about this is that a decision has been made on Oct. 14, yet Rep. Monica Stonier, D-Vancouver, states she wants to revive the curriculum and start fighting for it again next year.

Why do we need to fight for something again, if the decision has been made? Those who support the curriculum claim it will decrease mental illnesses, pregnancy rates, suicides, assaults and other health issues on the side. I disagree and say this is not the way. This curriculum is not only messed up, but it’ll corrupt the minds of students.

Kids should not be learning about these things at this age, and we just need to let kids be kids, even if it’s “age appropriate” in the eyes of the school board. This sex education curriculum will promote sexual activity rather than decrease any of those issues going among teens now. The town of Battle Ground needs to raise the standards as a school district and community for the kids now and the future to come.
