COVINGTON — The pilot of a small plane that went down in a lake near Covington was rescued by kayakers.

KIRO-TV reports the plane crashed into Lake Morton shortly before noon Monday.

The King County Sheriff’s Office says witnesses saw a plane with no engine crash into the middle of the lake.

The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was rescued by neighbors using kayaks, Mountain View Fire said.

The 19-year-old man was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where a hospital spokeswoman says he was in serious condition Monday afternoon.
It appeared one of the plane’s wings was separated from the fuselage.

The plane was pulled out of the lake.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Bureau will investigate the cause of the crash.
