Letter: Superheroes needed to save Earth

By Don Anderson, Portland
Published: November 22, 2019, 6:00am

As I laugh at life, I know one thing is certain: sports, music, arms, films, etc. all transcend politics, race, color and creed. While some people choose to bury their collective heads in the sand, our planet remains on life support as our Earth floods and burns up. What is laughable is that we are worried about entities that we seemingly have little control over. Politics, extreme nationalism, greedy capitalists, extreme cult religions, and war/resource mongers are a dangerous joke, as they are the harbingers of failure. My desire is that our young people become superheroes and save the Earth.

Stephen Hawking relates that Earth will not be habitable in the next 100 years. Most environmental scientists believe that Earth is beyond the tipping point. Actually, the sociopath nitwit “acting” President Trump is a benefit for our country, as he is a strong catalyst for change. Unless we destroy all fossil fuels and gas-hogging vehicles and employ renewable energy, we will go the way of the dinosaurs. My recommendation is to purchase horses and buggies and live a fruitful life of coexistence (metaphorically speaking). To right the wrong of human-caused damage to our precious Earth, its environment, and its surviving cargo: Us.
