DURHAM, N.C. — Two people were found dead Monday with gunshot wounds at a North Carolina doctors’ office, police said.

A Durham Police Department news release said officers were called to the building’s parking lot Monday around 8 a.m. and found a man and woman dead.

Capt. Melissa Bishop Police told reporters the building was quickly secured and no suspect is on the loose. She declined to answer questions about whether the people knew each other or what led to the shooting. The people’s names weren’t immediately released.

The shooting happened in the vicinity of the UNC Family Medicine Center at Durham. Television news helicopters captured footage of two bodies in the parking lot, but police wouldn’t immediately confirm if the shooting happened outside. The parking lot was cordoned off with police tape as multiple first-responders came to the scene.

Bishop said there were 25 to 35 patients and employees inside the building when police arrived.

UNC Health spokesman Phil Bridges told reporters that counseling would be available for employees and that the safety of employees and patients is their top priority. He declined to offer more details about what happened.
