Letter: Herrera Beutler should be replaced

The Washington, D.C., Roll Call votes on Sept. 16 show we Southwest Washington voters should replace Jaime Herrera Beutler in 2020.

She voted against a bill to ban drilling in the pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge on the north slope of Alaska. Then, to top it off, she voted for a Republican-sponsored motion to stymie the same bill, H.R. 1146, absent a declaration by the Trump administration that we would not thereby need to import oil and natural gas from Russia.

The United States has more than enough oil and gas without wrecking one of the last truly wild places in our country. We should concentrate on trying to maximize our non-fossil fuel sources of energy, such as wind and solar, which our area could easily supply.

We need a new representative who really understands that working against global warming cannot wait.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
