Art galleries and local businesses celebrate this month’s art shows with a First Friday Art Walk in downtown Vancouver from 5 to 9 p.m. Visitors can enjoy opening receptions and light refreshments at art galleries, after-hours shopping, dining and drink specials, live music and other events. www.vdausa.org

First Saturday

“Wild: An Introspective Featuring the Art of Glo McCullough, Graece Gabriel, and Sarah Bartell,” through Oct. 26, with an opening reception 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 4. Join WyldArt portrait painter Glo McCollough, homesteader, taxidermist and survivalist Sarah Bartell, and wildlife visual storyteller photographer Graece Gabriel as they take viewers on an artistic exploration of some of North America’s most majestic creatures. “Interconnected, Interwoven, Interactive,” through October with an opening reception 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 4, features works by Pamela Chipman and Jill Falk. Chipman’s interactive video installation, photographs and video address sexism and gender inequality, while Falk’s paintings reveal patterns and tendencies of perception that exist both within and beyond the present moment. Jemila Hart, Jacob Heiny and G. Scott Rafite, through the fall. On the first floor of the Esther building is a selection of pieces from Rafite’s series, “Irrational Patterns,” mixed-media lines and shapes on French paper. On the second floor, Hart creates scenes of rocks, water and sky using monoprint techniques, while Heiny’s uncanny photographs play with perception, framing images so that it makes the viewer wonder what they are really seeing. “Oil & Water,” through Oct. 26. This solo exhibit showcases Rangner’s work as he interprets the same landscape in two mediums, with paintings done in oil and also in gouache.
