FAIRWAY 164TH — Black and white portraits featuring 12 women who stay at the Touchmark at Fairway Village senior living facility were featured in a calendar that was released Oct. 3. Proceeds from each $25 calendar sold benefit Share Vancouver, which serves those experiencing homelessness in Clark County. Accompanying the image in the calendar is each woman’s answer to the question: “What does a full life mean to you?” Women photographed attended the Oct. 3 party to discuss themselves while musician Barbara Cecil performed. Among the 12 women featured, resident Dorothy Smith was a college math professor, worked at Wisconsin’s Naval Research Lab and studied flame theory; Pat Kotson started a sheet metal business with her husband, running it alone after he died in 1993; Antoinette Emch, originally from Switzerland, was a professor of math and physics. Emch’s advice? “Be useful and find your niche; life isn’t just about making babies and keeping house.” The calendar was released during Active Aging Week from Oct. 1-7, an annual celebration by the International Council on Active Aging.
