Letter: Trump’s words are reckless

By Dave Van Curen, Longview

This letter is not about the impending impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump that have been prompted by a whistleblower. It is about the dangerous nature of the president’s early response.

The president’s words have hypnoticlike influence on many people and he revels in their adoration. Sadly, he is a malignant narcissist with no feelings for anyone else. His words have had indirect but deadly consequences. The mail bomb spree by a Florida man, the car attack at the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville and the El Paso massacre were all carried out by Trump supporters or sympathizers.

And now he says: “I want to know who’s the person, who’s the person who gave the whistleblower the information? Because that’s close to a spy. You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart? Right? The spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now.”

Let’s hope that these reckless words do not inspire another of his unstable supporters to action. The somber question is, does he hope that they will?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
