Two former Camas teammates clashed Saturday in a battle that could decide a Southern California conference title.
Chapman University (Orange, Calif.) knocked off No. 15-ranked University of Redlands, 21-18, in a battle of unbeaten teams. The victory gives Chapman the inside track to winning the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which is part of NCAA Division-III.
Two former Papermakers have helped those programs become forces in the conference.
David Aarhus, a junior, has started all four games this season at linebacker, averaging 3.3 tackles per game. Aarhus earned his starting role last season, when he averaged 5.7 tackles per game and had two sacks.
For Redlands, senior Blake Roy has become one of the conference’s top tight ends. In five games this season, he has 12 catches including three touchdowns.
Last season, Roy caught 32 passes and six touchdowns en route to winning first-team all-conference honors.
Both Roy and Aarhus played on the 2015 Camas team that went 11-1, reaching the state quarterfinals, and the 2014 team that went 10-1.
Both are also excelling in the classroom. Roy is a two-time academic all-conference honoree with plans to major in Business Administration. Aarhus also made the all-academic team last season with plans to major in Data Analytics.
