Prep highlights: Washougal girls soccer knocks off Ridgefield, 1-0

Makenzi Gehrke made nine saves and the Washougal girls soccer team upset Ridgefield 1-0 in a 2A Greater St. Helens League match Tuesday. Aurora Espinoza scored the Panthers’ lone goal.

The win moves Washougal to 5-3 in league play, just one point behind Ridgefield and Hockinson, also both 5-3 in league. Ridgefield and Hockinson meet Thursday in a match that could decide the second spot in league, and a home playoff match.

River tennis wins 2A GSHL title

Columbia River seniors Wilson Keller, Max Firstenburg, Alex Miller and Theo Manu helped lead the Chieftains to a 5-1 win over Ridgefield on Tuesday to wrap up a fourth consecutive 2A Greater St. Helens regular-season title.

The four seniors are part of a 30-0 run the Chieftains have made in league play in their four years.

Ridgefield finished in second place, two games behind Columbia River.

Stars of the day

Cade Bringhurst, Ridgefield boys golf, shot a 3-under 68 to win the 2A Greater St. Helens League Championships at Mint Valley Golf Course. The Spudders also won as a team.

Jasmine Bates, Mountain View girls cross country, won a three-team meet against Kelso and Heritage by more than a minute, covering 2.98 miles in 18 minutes, 39 seconds.

Chloe Klappholz and Nallely Mojica Zavala, Evergreen girls soccer, combined for six goals and four assists in the Plainsmen’s win over Fort Vancouver.

Luke Lund, Prairie boys cross country, led the Falcons to a perfect score of 15 in a dual meet against Fort Vancouver at Lewisville Park, winning in 16:23.

Meri Dunford, Prairie girls cross country, won a dual meet against Fort Vancouver by 90 seconds, covering 5,000 meters in 18:36 in Lewisville Park.

Sophia Carter, Prairie volleyball, finished with 19 kills and 11 digs in the Falcons’ sweep of Hudson’s Bay.

Dana Snider, King’s Way Christian volleyball, tallied six kills, four aces and 16 digs in the Knights’ sweep of Seton Catholic.

Kohana Fukuchi, Ridgefield volleyball, had 21 assists for the Spudders in a sweep of Washougal.

Sara Wahlstrom, Heritage slowpitch softball, was a combined 5 for 5 with two triples and six RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Mountain View.

Savannah Fesler, R.A. Long slowpitch, hit a pair of home runs in the Lumberjills’ win over Kelso.

Maddy Paine, Camas slopitch softball, was 2 for 2 with a double and two RBI in an 11-1 win over Hudson’s Bay.

Adria Jones, Heritage volleyball, had 20 kills and 10 digs in a four-set win over Battle Ground.

Erika Strait, Mountain View volleyball, had eight digs, five kills, three blocks and 16 assists as the Thunder swept Fort Vancouver.

Olivia Fothergill, Mountain View girls soccer, scored twice in the Thunder’s victory over Hudson’s Bay.

Sam Geiger, Camas boys cross country, led the Papermakers to a perfect score in a dual meet against Skyview with a winning time of 16:52 at Cottonwood Park.

Halle Jenkins, Camas girls cross country, won a dual meet against Skyview, covering 5,000 meters at Cottonwood Park in 19:09.

Grace Hay, Woodland volleyball, scored a hat trick in a 5-0 win over R.A. Long.
