AMBOY — A program by the Mount St. Helens Institute recently received a grant from Nike. The $5,000 grant was awarded through the Beaverton, Ore.-based company’s Community Impact Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation and will benefit the institute’s Volcano Outdoor School for All, which provides day and night excursions around the mountain for low-income and underrepresented youth. In the past, the institute has provided transportation reimbursement and field trip expense waivers to Evergreen Public Schools, Police Activities League, Girls Inc. of Southwest Washington, Boys & Girls Club and others. Applications for the Nike Community Impact Fund grants for the next cycle are being accepted now through Nov. 30. $250,000 will be available to nonprofits and schools in the greater Portland area that “give youth positive experiences with sports and physical activity, and advance healthier, supportive and more inclusive communities.” Applications should be submitted at communityimpact.nike.com/ncif.
