Clark Athletic Report: Penguins women’s soccer clinches playoff berth

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Record: 10-3-1 overall, 10-0-1 NWAC South (first place)

Last week: defeated Rogue 4-1; won at Southwestern Oregon 6-0

This week: Clackamas at Clark, noon Saturday (Sophomore Day / regular-season finale).

Notable: The NWAC fifth-ranked Penguins clinched a fourth straight NWAC South title last week and were the first team to wrap up an NWAC playoff berth. The Penguins are up to 62 consecutive NWAC South match wins. … Sophomore Hannah Eakins (Washougal HS) had two goals against Rogue and a goal and two assists against Southwestern Oregon.

MEN’S SOCCER

Record: 4-4-2 overall, 2-4-2 NWAC South (fourth place)

Last week: lost to Rogue 3-1

This week: Clark at Lane, 2 p.m. Wednesday; Southwestern Oregon at Clark, 2 p.m. Saturday (Sophomore Day / regular-season finale).

Notable: The Penguins are four points behind Southwestern Oregon for the NWAC South’s final playoff berth with two games remaining for both squads including the regular-season finale against each other on Saturday.

VOLLEYBALL

Record: 11-17 overall, 2-9 NWAC South (ninth place)

Last week: defeated Southwestern Oregon 3-0 (25-21, 30-28, 25-22); lost to Rogue 3-1 (19-25, 19-25, 25-23, 20-25)

This week: Clark at Lane, 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Notable: In the win over Southwestern Oregon, sophomore Laurel Davidson had 15 kills, 17 digs and two aces, sophomore Chelsea Petrino had 10 kills, and freshman Marina Breuner had 31 assists and nine digs. Against Rogue, Petrino had 10 kills; Breuner had 26 assists, and freshman Tyra Schroeder (King’s Way Christian HS) had 19 digs.

CROSS COUNTRY

Recent results: The Clark men placed 11th out of 12 teams at the Lewis & Clark Invitational, which had a mix of teams mostly NCAA Division III and NAIA levels. Sophomore Micah Goff (Union HS) was 42nd out of 119 in 26:39.6 and freshman Evans Kaame was 43rd in 26:39.8 as they finished together for Penguins on the 8K course at McIver Park in Estacada, Ore. Freshman Paige Neff (Camas HS) was 40th overall out of 131 women, finishing the 6K course in 24:00.3.

Next meet: NWAC Southern Region, Nov. 2 at Clackamas.
