Skyview senior Jonathan Hutley needed three sets to keep alive his hopes of repeating as 4A district boys tennis singles champion.

Seeded third, Hutley, who placed fifth at state last season, won his district quarterfinal match over senior Kulbir Singh of Heritage 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 on Wednesday at Vancouver Tennis Center.

Next for Hutley is Thursday’s 9 a.m. semifinal against No. 2 seed junior Akash Prasad of Camas, who dropped just two games in two straight-set victories on Wednesday.

The other semifinal features No. 1 seed senior Naman Thawani of Union against No. 5 seed Shiva Narayanan of Camas. Narayanan knocked off No. 4 seed senior Tim Muresan of Heritage in the quarterfinals 6-3, 7-5.

In doubles, top seed senior Kyle Mosier and sophomore Jake Flentke of Union, who were third at state last year and are the defending district champs, advanced to the semifinals with a 6-0, 6-2 quarterfinal win after receiving a first-round bye.
