WOODLAND — Brooks Massey rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns as the Beavers shocked the Chieftains in a 2A Greater St. Helens League matchup.
The Chieftains (3-3 in league play, 3-5 overall) entered the game in the driver’s seat to earn one of the four playoff berths allocated to the 2A GSHL. Now Woodland (2-3, 2-6) just needs to defeat Mark Morris (also 2-3 in league play) next week and the Beavers will be in the playoffs. If the Monarchs win, Columbia River will make the playoffs. The Chieftains have a non-league contest against Clarkston next week.
Woodland found the end zone on its opening drive with the big play being a 50-yard run by Massey on a fake punt to take a lead it would never lose.
The Beaver defense also did its part, holding the Chieftains to 55 yards in the first half and dominating the line of scrimmage. Issac Bibb-O’Neil, who had 184 yards rushing last week, was held to 25 yards.
