Letter: Embrace environmental protections

By Ellen Sward, Vancouver
Published: September 13, 2019, 6:00am

Our president has moved to rescind rules governing methane emissions, opened millions of acres of public land and water to drilling, completed a plan to weaken the Endangered Species Act, and intends to roll back clean- water regulations affecting streams and wetlands. The methane action brings to 84 the number of environmental rules this administration is repealing. Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, has not spoken up against the vast majority of these shortsighted initiatives. Responsible environmental stewardship should be embraced by both political parties. Time for new leadership.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
