Letter: It’s a beautiful day to serve Love

Mr. Rogers was the future of American religion. If Rogers and people like him didn’t exist, America would surely have outlawed religion by now. Fred Rogers was so sincere that when we try to remember why we used to make fun of him, we instead deeply miss him. Doctor Rogers understood the human anxiety to love and to be loved. He did not exploit this need. He served it. He served Love.

So, dear “faith” leaders of America, please examine the life of The Rev. Dr. Fred McFeely (Mister) Rogers and give us more of what he was doing and less of what you’re inflicting upon us. We don’t need your battle cries, bigotry, tribalism, con artistry, slogans on the walls, creeds on our money, your disrespect of science, your manipulation of elections, cynical prayers that divide us, your attempts to steal taxpayer money, shame, lies, greed or brainwashing. Minister to America’s developing psyche, feelings, and sense of moral and ethical reasoning.

Serve Love. Be our future. Or we won’t miss you.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
