One of the things that is disappointing about this decade is the utmost disrespect toward the American flag and the pledge. At school, we say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning in first period, but I don’t hear anybody but me, a couple of others and the teacher recite it.
One day, I finally asked one of my friends why they don’t repeat it, they reply “I don’t believe in God.” That is one of the worst reasons I’ve heard. Although one of the lines is “One nation under god,” the Pledge of Allegiance is not all about God. In fact, this line wasn’t even added until 1954 in response to communist threats.
Now, I don’t know what the other reasons are, but I say the Pledge of Allegiance because I am proud of the country I live in and the freedoms that I have. I say the Pledge of Allegiance because I have an endless respect for those men and women who have fought for our country to provide and maintain the rights that we have now. So I encourage all people, and every one of my peers, to stand up and say the Pledge of Allegiance proudly.
