COWLITZ COUNTY — Washington authorities have recovered a body believed to be a man who went missing after his kayak capsized.

The Cowlitz County Dive Team recovered a body authorities believe is 28-year-old Robert Chick of Castle Rock, KPTV-TV reported Sunday.

Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office personnel and the dive team responded to Silver Lake after receiving a report that a person located a body using sonar.

Chick and a companion launched kayaks Friday night onto the lake 64 miles (103 kilometers) south of Olympia, authorities said.

The pair were paddling back to the boat ramp when both of their kayaks capsized. His companion told deputies Chick tried to use the kayak for flotation before he disappeared in the water.

The Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office is expected to confirm the identity and cause of death.
