A Longview man appeared Thursday in Clark County Superior Court to face allegations in a March bank robbery in Hazel Dell.

Andrew William Doehne, 37, faces a single count of first-degree robbery.

Court records show that Judge Gregory Gonzales set Doehne’s bail at $50,000. Arraignment is scheduled for May 13.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded March 4 to a robbery at the KeyBank branch at 1217 N.E. 99th St. According to an affidavit of probable cause, the suspect gave a note to a teller that read, “Be quiet, give me money, no funny stuff.”

The teller handed over $1,870, and the suspect fled and evaded arrest, according to the affidavit.

A detective reviewed video footage from the bank several days later and noted that the suspect made no efforts to hide his face. On March 9, the sheriff’s office released an image of the suspect to the media. The next day, the detective received a tip from someone claiming the robber was Doehne, according to the affidavit.

The tipster, who said he went to school with Doehne, was 99 percent positive of the identification, court records say.

Then, the detective located images of Doehne on social media websites and in jail booking and driver’s license records. It was “very apparent from the photos the suspect … was likely Doehne,” the affidavit says. It was also discovered that Doehne was wanted by the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office for multiple felonies, including robbery and burglary.

Deputies tracked Doehne to his last known address in the 700 block of Olson Road in Longview, according to the affidavit. They started surveilling the home and observed Doehne and his fiancee get into a pickup.

Doehne was arrested 10 minutes later in the parking lot of Lowe’s off Ocean Beach Highway in Longview.

His fiancee, Jennifer McCauley, told deputies she was shocked at the arrest. She said she was unaware of Doehne’s whereabouts on the night of the bank robbery. However, she noted that he “comes and goes as he pleases,” and it wasn’t unusual to not see him for several days. She said Doehne does not have a job but always seems to have money, according to the affidavit.

When shown a photo of the suspect from the bank robbery, McCauley sighed and confirmed it was him, court records say.

Doehne declined to speak with arresting deputies, according to the affidavit. Cowlitz County deputies arrested him on suspicion of robbery, burglary and theft, and booked him into jail there. That case is pending.

Clark County deputies on Wednesday served a warrant on Doehne tied to the KeyBank robbery.
