Letter: Trump has no principles

By Michael Nettleton, Vancouver

Jim McConnell’s letter comparing Donald Trump to Abraham Lincoln made me do a spit-take with my morning covfefe (“Trump’s position is familiar,” Our Readers’ Views, April 16). Sure, you can throw out phrases like “inflexible in his convictions and tireless in his actions to bring about his agenda” and “one of the most despised leaders our country has seen,” to draw a surface connection between the two. What it doesn’t take into account is that Lincoln was a wise, compassionate and intelligent man with strong ideals. Trump is a boorish, vindictive con man with fourth-grade comprehension skills, whose only agenda is the promotion and enrichment of Donald J. Trump. He not only has no real principles, he probably thinks the word refers to the bosses of all the teachers of an elementary school.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
