RIDGEFIELD — Teachers at Union Ridge Elementary School recently held a car parade through their students’ neighborhoods. Missing their students since the closure of the school due to the COVID-19 pandemic, dozens of cars lined up in the elementary school’s parking lot on April 9, decorated with streamers, signs and balloons. An officer on a motorcycle led the car parade through the city while students and families viewed from driveways and sidewalks, some holding signs. Teachers honked and waved as they went by. Since the school is closed through the end of the school year, school staff wanted to “make a gesture of support for their students as they prepared to start social distance learning,” according to a news release. “All of us miss you guys so much! We’re excited for this opportunity to wave at you and show you how much we care about you,” Principal Angie Gaub said in a message to her students, the release said.
