Letter: Keep federal forces out of cities

I don’t know what bothers me more:

(1) That Donald Trump thinks it is appropriate to send armed border patrol and other homeland security forces against American citizens because he doesn’t like their political beliefs (why Portland and Chicago but not Miami?);

(2) That he will probably get away with it legally because no one who wrote the laws establishing these agencies foresaw the need to stipulate that the forces should not be used against American citizens to deprive them of their constitutional rights; or

(3) That a significant portion of the U.S. population, apparently, not only does not find these action appalling, and in fact, supports them.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
