A 58-year-old Vancouver resident died in a motorcycle collision around 6:41 p.m. Friday in Skamania County, according to Washington State Patrol District 5.

The motorcycle rider, Rath Cyrus, was completing a pass while driving east on state Highway 14 near Franz Lake when a deer ran out in front of his motorcycle. The motorcycle collided with the deer, according to a memo from Washington State Patrol District 5.

Cyrus, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, according to the memo.

The memo says the pass was a contributing circumstance to the collision.
