Letter: Trump tries to hijack election

We, as American citizens, should be ashamed. The headline in The Columbian read, “USPS warns of voting delays.” We should be ashamed because we have Donald Trump as our president and Louis DeJoy as the new postmaster general. DeJoy, Herr Trump’s billionaire buddy with no experience in postal matters (except his assets in USPS competitors), is carrying out the farce in full view of the American people — keep Americans from voting.

It is especially aimed at low-income people and people of color who may have difficulty trying to get to the polls or if they do, will have to wait many hours to try to vote (never mind the possibility of contracting COVID-19).

The president is trying to hijack the election because he is worried that when people vote, their votes will not be for him. Every concerned person should be contacting their elected representatives. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray are Washington’s senators. Jaime Herrera Beutler is our House of Representatives contact. Don’t delay — the election may hinge on how far this hijacking proceeds.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
