Letter: Don’t expect Trump to help

It’s quite apparent to nearly all Americans that the forthcoming election is critical in deciding who will try to lead the nation out of its current crises. Indeed, this election may determine the very soul of our country. The road ahead will be a bumpy one regardless of whether Biden becomes president or Trump wins reelection.

I predict that we will know the winner by the morning after Election Day, regardless of how many absentee or late ballots might remain to be counted: it will be Joe Biden by an overwhelming popular (and electoral) margin.

President Trump will never cede the election or call to congratulate Joe Biden on his victory. Of course, Trump already has a ready-made excuse that: “if not for COVID . . .” In his last days and weeks before leaving the White House Trump will probably pardon hundreds of white-collar criminals like himself. Finally, as he paid no attention to President Obama’s effort to help transition the Trump team to office, he will do nothing to help prepare the Biden team to assume the reins of power. He’ll just walk out the door.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
