The Ridgefield School District has approved a remote learning plan for the beginning of the school year. Here’s a summary of what that entails:

What will my student’s schedule look like?

Similar to other districts, Ridgefield has adopted a schedule of “synchronous” — live video sessions — and “asynchronous” — independent and small group work — class periods.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will have two instructional block periods each day.

Most students’ days will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m., while fifth-graders’ days will begin one hour earlier and end an hour later.

Sixth-grade students will attend three rotations per day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with time built in for support in each rotation. Teachers will also facilitate three independent learning sessions for each of these days.

Physical education and art will be taught on Mondays and Tuesdays, while band, choir, computer science and choice activities will take place Thursdays and Fridays.

Wednesdays will be split into two instructional blocks.

For all students through sixth grade, whole-class lessons will be held for all students at the start of the day, and reflection sessions will take place at the end of each day

View Ridge Middle School and Ridgefield High School students will participate in odd-numbered periods on Mondays and Thursdays, with even-numbered periods taking place Tuesdays and Fridays. Student support periods will also take place after each regular period on these days.

On Wednesdays, students from View Ridge and Ridgefield High will participate in all periods. Breaks will also take place throughout the week.

Grading and attendance?

Normal grading policies, including formative and summative assessments, will be in place.

Attendance for students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be taken at the start of each day. For all older students, attendance will be taken at the start of each period.

What other services will the district provide?

Lunches for students up to fifth grade will be available for pickup at Union Ridge Elementary School. For all other students, lunches can be picked up at Sunset Ridge Intermediate School and View Ridge.

Chromebooks will be available to all students, and the district will provide technical support. Distribution began Thursday and Friday and will also take place Monday and Tuesday.

Additional information will be sent out for those who are not available to sign up for any of these distribution slots.

What’s left to figure out?

The district is planning for a hybrid in-person schedule for when the number of COVID-19 cases drops.
