Letter: No proof behind accusations

By Steve Friebel, Vancouver

In “Keep politics out of classroom,” Toni Rozario claimed that, “the classroom curriculum today includes political leaning and social views” (Our Readers’ Views, Aug. 18). What is missing from this accusation is the evidence that this is going on within any classrooms; the letter did not provide a source for the evidence; it provided no reasoning that connects her evidence to the claim. The John Birch Society tossed these same accusations about during the ’60s.

I was a teacher and a principal for 40 years in three different school districts. I have been a substitute administrator for seven years in Vancouver. I have yet to encounter, witness or hear of any of the letter’s accusations during my career.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
