Letter: Support local businesses

By Paul Rollins, Vancouver

I see a lot of delivery vehicles — Amazon, UPS, USPS, FedEx, and others — flitting about Clark County. They represent a huge volume of business from online ordering of goods from merchants outside our area.

Many of our local businesses are suffering due to the pandemic. Many of these may fail and they won’t be there as convenient, local sources we need when life returns to a pattern more like normal. We should be supporting these businesses. They pay local employees, our families, friends and neighbors. Local businesses pay local taxes, directly and indirectly, that support our schools, streets, fire and law enforcement, and other public services we rely upon for a good and safe quality of life.

Not everything we need or want can be secured locally, but for things than can be, let’s think about local sources first before clicking on that website.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
