PORTLAND — With December here, the man depicted in Portland’s famed “Umbrella Man” statue is without his bronze canopy.

The statue — a Pioneer Courthouse Square staple called “Allow Me” — has apparently been without its umbrella for over a month.

Journalist Cory Elia told KGW on Twitter that a worker removed the umbrella in late October. The shaft of the umbrella was slightly bent, according to Elia.

The bronze man, clad in his business suit and red tie, could be seen clasping only the curved handle of his umbrella Sunday.

The Pioneer Courthouse Square nonprofit and Regional Arts & Culture Council did not immediately return messages seeking information about the umbrella.

But, in a positive turn for the city’s “Umbrella Man,” plenty of sun is expected throughout the week.
